I am in a place of privilege – a white, older, bloke (pale, stale, male).
It seems that systems, both in medicine as well as in wider life, are designed for blokes and conspire against women.
Which is of course inherently unfair – the ongoing misogyny and gendered bias in life is frustrating.
I remember hearing from a wonderful group of women emergency physicians in Chicago (FeminEM) about the idea of forming a “Raft of Bitches”
Female otters – bitches, if you will – join hands with each other to create rafts that stop them from drifting apart and losing each other while they are asleep.
Just like a literal raft of bitches, thriving women often have a tight-knit circle of other women who helped them get there by providing information and support along the way.
So for all those struggling with misogyny and bias out there – circle your bitches, form a raft and face those adversaries head on!
Who is in YOUR raft of bitches?
