Money for JAM?

August 26, 2013 by Tim Leeuwenburg 1 Comment

Well not quite huge financial prizes…but hopefully some worthy reward for the best 60 sec video.

I’e posted on this earlier re PUMP UP THE JAM and the concept is being enthusiatically taken up by other rural docs and emergency physicians. You can see more info over at Minh le Cong’s prehospitalmed.com and Casey Parker’s Broomedocs.com

Competition rules re-blogged from prehospitalmed.com

Overview :

JAM (Just a Minute Medicine) is a FOAMEd concept born from the success of the Pecha Kucha competition from the SMACC (Social Media and Critical Care) 2013 conference.

The purpose of JAM is to inspire educational creativity amongst health professionals working in rural and remote settings who face challenges of remote professional learning and skills maintenance.

Faced with the need at times to perform critical emergency procedures that may be infrequently conducted or practised, the rural health provider may benefit from a short video presentation summarising the essential elements of the intervention. This presentation must be succinct and easy to review.

Whilst many medical videos are available online already via Youtube/Vimeo, none are deliberately formatted or designed for a short refresher presentation focussed on needs of the occasional provider of an emergency procedure.

Hence the objective of the JAMMIT (just a minute medicine instructional tutorial) series.

Acceptable entries will all be uploaded to a JAMMIT dedicated open access website for viewing and downloading by all.

Competition rules :

1. Entry submissions start on 1st September and close on 1st October and need to be emailed to jammit13@gmail.com

2. All entries must be submitted as digital video files of maximum duration 60 seconds

3. All submitted entries will be subject to judging and if chosen to be added to the JAMM online library will be freely accessible and available for download (the creator makes the material available openly under the Creative Commons Attribution License)

4. Any medical images/material included in the entry video must not breach patient confidentiality laws of any country.

5. The entries must provide content relevant to emergency medicine and/or resuscitation of the critically ill/injured patient.

Relevance to rural and remote health care will be judged at a higher value.

Competition judging and award:

All entries will be judged by a panel of rural and remote health providers who work in a remote setting as well as contribute to FOAMEd community through provision of free online clinical educational material in various formats (blogs, podcasts, presentations at conferences)

The JAMM 2013 winning entry will be showcased at the Rural  Medicine Australia 2013 conference at Cairns on 31st October during the Social Media concurrent stream.

This is FOAMed – free, open-access medical education to benefit us all….
